Russell Brand Deported from Japan Before Katy Perry Concert

Russell Brand Deported from Japan Before Katy Perry Concert

We're sure that comedian Russell Brand was booted from plenty of places during his hard-partying days -- but now that he's sober, he's been kicked out of an entire country. On Sunday, Brand, 35, was deported from Japan, where he had flown to be with his wife Katy Perry during her California Dreams tour. On her Twitter account, Perry explained that he'd been banned from the country for "priors from over 10 years ago!"

"So...my husband just got deported from Japan. I am so. sad," the 26-year-old pop singer tweeted. "I brought him all this way to show him my favorite place #tokyodreamscrushed"

The singer jokingly started a campaign to "Free @RustyRockets!" (Brand's Twitter name), but was quick to reassure fans that she would still be playing her scheduled shows in Nagoya on Sunday, Tokyo on Monday and Tuesday, and Osaka on Thursday.

"I (heart) my Japanese fans & the show #MUSTGOON no matter the daily aftershocks or husband kidnappings! #it'snotrightbutit'sokay," Perry wrote.

We're sure Katy's hubby wasn't too happy, either -- but being Russell Brand, he faced the situation with a sense of humor.

"Planning escape from Japanese custody," Brand tweeted. "It's bloody hard to dig a tunnel with a chopstick."

On Sunday morning, Brand posted a picture of himself emerging from the ground -- chopstick in hand. "Alcatraz! Shawshank Redemption! And now this!" he wrote. "Ah, sweet bird of freedom!"

Brand was reportedly denied entry into the island nation because of his criminal record, which includes an arrest last September for allegedly attacking a paparazzo. Though he's been sober since 2002, Brand also has 11 arrests accumulated during his years as a heroin addict. Japan has strict laws about allowing criminals into the country, and celebrities are no exception: In September of last year, Paris Hilton was forbidden from entering the country because of her recent drug conviction.
