Looks like the newest aspiring pop star from the Real Housewives franchise is... Simon van Kempen?! Yes, the mild-mannered husband of The Real Housewives of New York City's Alex McCord has become the first House-husband to take a shot at pop stardom. Van Kempen surprised everyone when he released his dance single, "I Am Real," on Thursday. Van Kempen tells People that "I Am Real" is about the "surreality of being a reality star." The chorus sounds like it belongs in the opening credits of the hit Bravo show ("I am who I am and that's the deal... Love me or hate me, I don't give a damn"). But we particularly like this verse about the other Housewives sniping at him:
Gold and diamonds glitter
The taste is slightly bitter
When wives attack behind my back
They trash me on their Twitter
Is it just us, or did Simon miss a golden opportunity by not calling his song "Trash Me on Twitter"?
Not that van Kempen is any stranger to Internet sniping. On Saturday, he wrote an extensive post on his personal blog about the most recent episode's feud between himself, McCord and Sonja Morgan. In case you missed it, the episode centered around the Marriage Equality of New York march, of which McCord was an organizer and Morgan was the grand marshal. Van Kempen was scheduled to speak at the event -- or so he thought -- before Sonja took over the podium and didn't let him get a word in edgewise. Later, Alex accused Sonja of "hijacking the event (from Simon) to make it about you and not about marriage equality"; Sonja accused Alex of being rude and unsupportive. The confrontation ended with Morgan tossing McCord out of her house. Watch below!
While Sonja has been defending her side on Twitter, she's also being surprisingly supportive of Simon's single, tweeting, "Catchy. I like it! @mccordalex didn't breathe a word!" And Alex, mysteriously, tweeted, "It's a testament to whether a friendship is real if you can move past things - watch what happens btw @SonjaTMorgan & me." Oh -- we definitely will!
