Lady Gaga Cancels Show In Indonesia After Protests

Islamic hard-liners worry that sexy clothes and dancing will corrupt youth.

The "Americano" singer has been forced to cancel her sold-out June 3 "Born This Way Ball" show at the 52,000-seat Gelora Bung Karno stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia after Islamic hard-liners and conservative lawmakers said her sexy costumes, suggestive dance moves and "vulgar" style could corrupt the nation's youth.According to the <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/lady-gaga-cancel-indonesia-concert-093021436.html" target="_blank">Associated Press</a>, a spokesperson for the national police said on Tuesday (May 15) that the permit for the show has been denied after religious conservatives worried that the concert could undermine the nation's moral fiber. Some of the critics actually threatened to use physical force to prevent Gaga from getting off her plane. Though Indonesia is a secular state, it has the world's largest population of Muslims and a small extremist fringe of religious leaders has been more vocal in recent years.<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lady Gaga Will Bring a 'Personal' Touch To 'Born This Way' Tour" id="vid:717952" width="415" height="255"></div>"She's a vulgar singer who wears only panties and a bra when she sings and she stated she is the envoy of the devil's child and that she will spread satanic teaching," said Salim Alatas, the Jakarta head of hardline Islamic Defender Front (FPI), according to <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/05/15/entertainment-us-indonesia-gaga-idUSBRE84E0HQ20120515" target="_blank">Reuters</a>. "This is dangerous."Local police worried that they might not be able to guarantee security at the show and suggested to national police that the permit for what was to be Gaga's biggest gig on her current Asian tour be pulled. Every seat at the Karno stadium had been sold, with half of them going in the first two hours.The AP reported that permits for shows are typically issued three weeks before concerts in Jakarta, so it is not uncommon for tickets to be sold well ahead of receiving a final permit. Gaga's Asian tour started last month and the Indonesian flap is not the first bump she's faced along the road. Gigs in <a href="/news/articles/1684062/lady-gaga-born-this-way-ball-seoul.jhtml">South Korea</a>  were 18-and-over because conservatives in that country also raised objections over the concert's content.<a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/?fid=1617615"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/news/photos/s/spotted/banner/spotted.jpg"></a>

'Perks Of Being A Wallflower' Trailer: What's That Song?

MTV News introduces you to Imagine Dragons and their catchy tune from the film, 'It's Time.'

How perfectly engaging and intriguing is that "Perks of Being a Wallflower" trailer? We've been thinking about it and re-watching it since its debut during our 2012 MTV Movie Awards pre-show, and the one thing that we can't get out of our heads — in addition to all those great visuals and actors — is that catchy song playing in the background.

The song is "It's Time" by Imagine Dragons. For those who have yet to discover this buzzworthy band from Las Vegas, get thee to downloading more of their infectious, lighthearted tunes.

Since forming in Vegas in 2009, Imagine Dragons have had to work their way toward their recent success, a voyage that has certainly had its share of ups and downs along the way.

"I remember one gig [where] we were playing a casino in Vegas, and it was a really small stage," guitarist Wayne Sermon recalled during an interview with MTV News recently. "We played a four-hour set — we'd do those two to three times a week — and we were exhausted, and [frontman] Dan [Reynolds] passes out in the middle of the last song, falls on the drum set, the drums go everywhere, and it was horrible, but we finished the song."

"And all these drunk guys were like, 'Wooo!' " Reynolds laughed. "But it didn't hurt; I was so tired, it was sort of nice to have a little break."

The band has finally started to see the fruits of their labor, with "It's Time" climbing the charts, the debut of their music video and plans to begin work on their first full-length EP. But they aren't letting any of that go to their heads.

"It's crazy. We've been a band for three years, living on the road, eating bean burritos every day, and we're still eating bean burritos every day, but it's been incredible to see the support that we've gotten," Reynolds said. "We really owe so much to our fans who, from the very beginning, have been sharing the music. And we live in a world where things can happen so quickly, and we're glad we've had three years to really prepare. ... We've been doing it for a little while, and it feels good ... and right."

How Did Jennifer Lawrence Get An Arrow In The Head?

Get an exclusive first look at 'Hunger Games' star's MTV Movie Awards appearance; short film producer Jordan Rubin fills us in!

That old adage about a picture being worth a thousand words is particularly appropriate for this sneak peek of "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence's appearance in a short film set to debut during the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday (June 3).

The photo clearly shows Lawrence with an arrow through her head, and given her unimpressed, annoyed expression when the pic was snapped, she doesn't look too pleased about the situation. But not to worry: The arrow through her head is all for the sake of Movie Awards comedy, for which Lawrence was totally game.

MTV News recently caught up with Movie Awards short film producer Jordan Rubin to get the behind-the-scenes scoop about how Lawrence came to be involved.

"The idea generated from this year being the year of archery," Rubin said. "Archery has really come back in a big way, so it seemed like a good thing to do as a jumping-off point for some comedy.

"You have 'The Hunger Games,' Jeremy Renner [as Hawkeye] in 'Avengers,' 'Game of Thrones,' 'Snow White and the Huntsman,' also 'Brave' is coming out," Rubin added. "It's good comedy fodder, and Jen totally got it. We were so happy she made time."

According to Rubin, the short film revolves around an archery coach who is not necessarily liked by a lot of people in the industry. It features Joel McHale and a cameo from Lawrence.

"[Lawrence] was really funny and gave us a lot of different options and was great at the comedy," Rubin said.

Jay-Z Takes Off Studio Time For Blue Ivy Time

'I just wanna enjoy those moments for a bit and I'm sure that feeling of music will come back to me,' Jay-Z tells MTV News of his daughter.

PHILADELPHIA — These days, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jay_z/artist.jhtml">Jay-Z</a> would rather rock the cradle than rock the mic. After the birth of he and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé</a>'s daughter <a href="/news/articles/1676906/beyonce-jay-z-baby-born-ivy-blue.jhtml">Blue Ivy</a>, Hov figured that he'd be so inspired by fatherhood that he'd be locked in the studio pouring his heart out. But fate has more immediate plans for the God MC, at least for the time being."I thought that I would after my daughter was born. I thought I would be more inspired with all the new feelings and everything that I'd have to write about, but it really happened the other way," Big Poppa Hov told MTV News told in Philadelphia following a press conference where he announced his two-day Made in America music festival. "I just really wanna hang out with her. Just days after baby Blue was born, Hov released "Glory," a track dedicated to his daughter. Not only did he rhyme of his innermost feelings, Jay also featured a sampling of Blue Ivy's first cries on the Pharrell Williams-produced track."A younger, smarter, faster me/ Saw a pinch of Hov, a whole glass of B," the one-time hustler rapped about his first born.Long-time Jay fans shouldn't be too surprised by the rapper's intimate soul-bearing, he's been doing it since his 1996 debut album Reasonable Doubt."My music has always been like that, if you listen to 'Glory' and you listen to 'Regrets,' which was on my first album, side by side, it's exploring the same sort of emotions," he insists. "It's just one deals with my mom, one deals with my daughter."On "Regrets," a younger, much darker Jay addressed the ills of his former street life, but he framed his feelings within the confines of his mother's teachings. President Obama To Debut First Re-Election Ad During Movie Awards

Commercial features Sarah Jessica Parker, who will invite lucky donors to her home for an Obama fundraiser.

The MTV Movie Awards traditionally feature many leaders from the world of pop culture. This year, the leader of the United States has chosen the Movie Awards to debut his first official re-election campaign commercial.

MTV News can report that President Obama's first 2012 campaign ad will air during the show, which begins live Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET.

President Obama's campaign spot won't be totally incongruous with the glam and glitz of the awards show. The ad features "Sex and the City" star Sarah Jessica Parker, who will invite supporters to her home for an Obama fundraiser co-hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Campaign donors will have a chance to win a pair of tickets, which will be raffled off by Obama re-election campaign organizers.

On Friday, the Obama camp released a video where Wintour voiced her support for the President, who is running for a second term.

The commercial comes at a pivotal moment in Obama's bid for re-election. In May, the president made headlines when he announced his support for same-sex marriage, making him the highest ranking elected official to do so in American history. While several celebrities voiced their support, others thought it was a calculated attempt to gain voters. Obama's biggest challenge will come from presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney, who has contrasted his worldview with that of the Obama administration, most pointedly when it comes to economic policy. He has pledged to repeal Obama's healthcare reform bill and would like to lawfully define marriage as between a man and a woman, among other platform distinctions.

Fans filled midtown Manhattan's Rockefeller Plaza to watch the ATL singer serenade them with singles off of his upcoming album Looking 4 Myself.Even though Usher performed bright and early, there was no shortage of energy as the singer rocked the crowd with his new hits "OMG," "Without U" and new hits "Climax" and "Scream." The audience stayed on their feet as Usher soulfully connected to fans (especially when he removed his jacket).<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Usher Gets The Party Moving On 'Today' With 'Without U'" id="vid:770400" width="415" height="255"></div>On Wednesday's <link type="content" id="1685266">"MTV First: Usher," the R&B superstar debuted his new track "Twisted" featuring Pharrell and opened up to host Sway Calloway about how Looking 4 Myself is "all about evolution." "All of my career is kind of an unveiling, an unfolding story, and it ain't done. There's so much more that I'm going to do, so much that I've now just been interested in and been introduced to," he said. "I just want that experience of having this very monogamous relationship with entertainment and acting in a way where I can really, really focus and become better."Other acts that will follow Usher on the "Today" summer concert series include Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, Pitbull, Chris Brown and the soon-to-be-picked <link type="content" id="1486475">"American Idol"</link> winner and runner-up.The concerts will occur every Friday morning for the remainder of the summer. Beyonce's 'Run The World' Started Off As 'A Joke'?

'It was a song we did, kind of like a funny, kind-of-a-joke song,' Diplo tells BBC Radio of B's 2011 single, which sampled his Major Lazer song.

This may come as a surprise to devoted disciples of the Queen B, but according to producer Diplo, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé</a>'s 2011 single "<a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/beyonce/654804/run-the-world-girls.jhtml#artist=1236911">Run the World (Girls)</a>" actually started as "a joke.""I think a lot of people don't even realize where that song came from," Diplo told <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/17907948" target="_blank">BBC Radio's Newsbeat</a>. "That song never really had a push. It was a song we did, kind of like a funny, kind-of-a-joke song."<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Beyoncé - "Run The World (Girls)"" id="vid:654804" width="415" height="255"></div><a href="/news/articles/1664181/beyonce-run-the-world-girls-video.jhtml">"Run the World"</a> was released as the first single from Bey's much-anticipated <a href="/news/articles/1666507/beyonce-4-album.jhtml">4 album</a>, though it was met with a slightly <a href="/news/articles/1664218/beyonce-run-the-world-girls-video.jhtml">puzzled reaction</a> from some of her die-hard fans and failed to generate much heat on the charts, reaching only #29 on the Billboard Hot 100. Subsequent singles "Best Thing I Never Had" and "Love on Top" fared slightly better, going as high as #16.Of course, Diplo isn't actually credited as a producer on "Run the World" (that honor would go to The-Dream, Switch, Beyoncé herself and Shea Taylor), but he did snag a writing credit, thanks to the song's hefty sample of his Major Lazer track "Pon de Floor." But he did produce the 4 track "End of Time" and remembered the experience as a surreal one."We had to finish up a few records we were working with her on," Dip said. "That was super-weird, man. Like, I remember we were in the studio working with her and I still couldn't believe it."

Usher's 'Climax' Is 'Not About Sex'

<a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> admits that "over the last three years of my life, it's no secret I went through some heavy transitions." And he's not joking. In 2009, he filed for a <a href="/news/articles/1613894/usher-files-divorce.jhtml">divorce from his wife</a>, Tameka Foster, after <a href="/news/articles/1566367/usher-gets-married-after-all.jhtml">marrying her in 2007</a>. In the lead-up to the split, their relationship certainly came with drama, including a rift with his mother and a major health scare for Foster during a 2009 trip to Brazil.And even with his divorce finalized, Usher is still in and out of court dealing with custody issues over their two sons, Usher and Naviyd. However, he is ready to put all that drama aside now that he's purged those emotions for his June 12 album release, the aptly titled <a href="/news/articles/1685178/usher-looking-4-myself.jhtml">Looking 4 Myself</a>."There's an emotional side to it. Over the last three years of my life, it's no secret I went through some heavy transitions and in that I really came out new," he told MTV News during "MTV First." "I came out feeling a sense of entitlement and a sense of ownership of all of that I went through to become better and in being able to survive it.<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Usher Gets Shot In His 'Climax' Performance" id="vid:767991.id:1685137" width="415" height="255"></div>"So I was looking for something in the music," he continued. "I was looking for something in life. I was looking for something in it has always been right here. It has always been there. So I kind of used the music as a dairy in a way, but a creative, artistic, art-in-motion diary."But, Usher is no stranger to putting his drama to music. With albums titled Confessions and Raymond v. Raymond, he has always put his personal business right where people can hear it."Oddly, I've unfortunately left my life an open book," he said. "So every record people would assume that each and every detail is specific, even the videos."That includes his most recent clip for "Climax," which follows jilted lover Usher as he contemplates shooting his girl's other man. Soon, he charges in the house, and a gunshot is fired off. What's unclear is whether it's reality or just Usher's fantasy."OK, I'm not sitting out in front of somebody's house and shoot up the crib, just so you know," he joked. " 'Climax' was an interpretation to really give people a better understanding 'cause I felt like people really looked at the record for what you heard first, which was 'Climax'. So, people thought 'sex.' It's not about sex. Well, climax is about sex, but not the song. Just so we're clear."The Diplo-produced track actually has more to do with the events of the last few years of his life than events in the bedroom. "The song is really about kind of the crescendo of a relationship, where you've reached a place where you're gonna dive in or let it go," he said. "And the 'Climax' is what it is."

Ciara Wants To Make You 'Sweat' On One Woman Army

'This is almost like a journal,' she tells MTV News of next album during Movie Awards Sneak Peek Week.

Before she took the stage Wednesday night during Movie Awards Sneak Peek Week with her "That's My Boy" co-stars, R&B-pop princess Ciara hit the pre-show red carpet and revealed details of her much-anticipated new single and album.

"I'm so excited about this new record. I'll tell you guys because I love you guys so much, and what would it be without MTV?" Ciara told MTV News on the carpet. "My new album, I'm almost finished with it, and the album title is called One Woman Army."

Army will be the "Goodies" singer's first album at her new label home of Epic Records.

Ciara parted ways with Jive Records in early 2011 following a falling-out over the promotion and support of her last effort, 2010's Basic Instinct, which peaked at #44 on the Billboard albums chart after her first three LPs all enjoyed top-three debuts. She was not without a label for long, signing up to join L.A. Reid's Epic just a few months later. It was Reid who signed Ciara to her first record deal in 2003.

For her part, the pop star seems to be moving in a new direction with Army, calling the album "very, very personal" and saying she "darn near cried" while writing many of the songs.

"This is the most vulnerable I've ever been in my life and career. And I'm so confident with being vulnerable. At one point in time, I was very afraid to be as vulnerable as I am," Ciara said. "This is almost like a journal, my own personal journal when you get this record."

But fans of Ciara's dance-heavy catalog shouldn't fear: The singer assured us there will be plenty of uptempo tracks, including the lead single, "Sweat."

"It's only right that I let you know this too, another bean, that my new single, my first single, is coming. It could be coming anytime soon, and it's called 'Sweat,' " Ciara continued. "I just love to make you sweat in all kinds of ways."

"That's My Boy," which hits theaters June 15, followed a never-before-seen clip from "Snow White and the Huntsman" as part of MTV's Sneak Peek Week festivities, which will also include exclusive first looks at "Magic Mike" tonight (May 31) and "Rock of Ages" on Friday (June 1), as well as live nightly chats with the casts of each film. Flo Rida Tried To Keep 'Whistle' As Clean As Possible

'But if you listen to it, you can take it another way as well,' Flo Rida tells MTV news of his latest single.

Flo Rida sure has a way with words. On one hand, the Miami spitter crafts catchy tunes that appeal to the masses, but Flo is also a master of the double entendre, masking some pretty suggestive lyrics with a candy-pop coating. His latest single, "Whistle," is a perfect example.

"Can you blow my whistle baby, whistle baby? Let me know," Flo croons on the hook before he instructs his lady to put her lips together and "come real close."

"It's definitely for referees," Flo Rida joked when he visited earlier in May.

"Well, put your own swing on it, but for the most part I keep it clean, but if you listen to it, you can take it another way as well," he finally admitted about his infectious pop single

"Whistle" isn't the first time Flo employed such dual meanings. On his 2009 #1 Billboard Hot 100 single "Right Round" he didn't leave much to the imagination, singing, "You spin my head right round, when you go down" on the chorus.

It's a playful formula that has paid huge dividends for the rapper, but how does he know where to draw the line between sexually suggestive and downright dirty? Well, he gets a little help. "I'm not the only one in the studio a lot of times, so I have my boys in there and they'll tell me and give me their suggestions and what they think," he explained. "If it's too much I'll go back."

So has Flo ever crossed that line? "Yeah, definitely [on] records that you won't hear," he confirmed. "But for the most part I go into the studio with it all planned out."

Usher consistently makes dance records that define a night, and it's important to the singer that his upbeat songs reach people on as deep a level as his more personal ballads."If I'm gonna move you, I want to move you.
